Kosuke Kiryu Wins Two Awards at the 13th BOVA Competition! 2026.06.04
TOKYO’s own director, Kosuke Kiryu, has received both the Jury Special Award and the Sponsor Award at the BOVA 2026 advertising competition for his film The Taste of Honesty.
The brief for this year’s BOVA competition was to create a film for Skylark Holdings’ Yumean, communicating the appeal of a casual and reassuring Japanese dining experience to families and couples.
In his award-winning piece, The Taste Found in Clumsiness (Bukiyō ni Yadoru Aji), Kiryu delicately portrays a fleeting moment at Yumean while following the quiet growth of its protagonist.
“Between the demands of everyday work, I found myself visiting Yumean again and again. Before I knew it, Yumean had become a place that supported me as well. That’s why I didn’t want to tell a grand story or rely on dramatic moments. Instead, I chose a restrained approach, carefully depicting the simple, genuine charm of Yumean and the quiet moments that stay with you.”
Known for his bold and impactful directorial style, Kiryu takes a different approach in this work, focusing on subtle human emotions and atmosphere.
“From the planning stage onward, I had many discussions with a copywriter I met during a secondment assignment. Together, we aimed to create something that truly responded to the product itself. Even if it’s not flashy, I want to continue pursuing expressions that quietly linger in someone’s heart.”
